All the World's a Stage: How to Build Habits
Consistent habits are essential for organization – and, that includes those habits that help you to organize your business. Without it, you’re left with a haphazard management style.
Of course, it’s not easy to instill good habits – though, it’s not impossible: even if it does take some time & effort.
As many things do, habit-building also hinges on process. If you can create a process for what you want to do, and move through, it’s sort of a great way to instill the habits you want to develop.
Let me give you an example.
Let’s say you want to start running a mile every morning. Well, the night before, you can lay your shoes out. And, put your water bottle on the table. Fold your workout clothes, and put them near the bed. Choose your route. Set your alarm.
Now, you can guilt yourself into adopting the habit.
You’re going to feel like a big jerk, if your sneakers are just laying out, for no reason – especially if somebody else trips over them! You’re not going to want to put your water bottle away unfilled, or to put your clothes back in the drawer. Putting your alarm on snooze, or turning it off – well, you’ll be rueful about those things, too. See. Before you know it, you’ll feel too ashamed not to run. Run for two weeks, and you’re probably locked in from there.
You can create a similar workflow for developing habits in your business.
So, what are you waiting for?
